WEGGIS, ZERMATT AND THE FURKA PASS
Featuring a private charter of Steam on the Furka Pass!
September 15 – October 4, 2018
Pre-Journey to your Basel to Amsterdam River Cruise
On the shores of Lake Lucerne and at the foot of the renowned Rigi, Weggis is the most charming place. Even in the past, many people raved about Weggis including the American author and travel writer, Mark Twain where in 1897, he alluded to Weggis as the “loveliest place” he had ever visited.
Is a heavenly ‘car-free’ Swiss village that is famous for its breathtaking mountain ranges and enthralling winter sports, especially on the mountain which towers above the village, the Matterhorn.
Furka Cogwheel Steam Railway
The original historical route of the Glacier Express. This wonderful line stretching 17.8 km is one of the most spectacular train routes in Switzerland. Originally built as part of the Glacier Express route over the Furka Pass, it was replaced by a tunnel opened in 1982 which now allows the Glacier Express to operate all year.
With this section of line no longer needed, as all Glacier Express trains use the tunnel, the plan was to close this section of the line, but with fantastic support from the locals, the ‘Furka Cogwheel Steam Railway ‘ has been restored by volunteers to service.
Our private, steam powered return charter will include a ride over the Furka Pass that will provide us with an incredible opportunity to get the most out of one of Switzerland’s greatest and most beautiful mountain passes!
