DEPART FOR AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS

Enjoy a private car ride to the airport. Guests departing from the Toronto airport are assisted with their check-in. Meet your Journey Manager and fellow travellers and board your flight to Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

Although The Hague is the official seat of government, Amsterdam represents the heart and soul of the Dutch people. After arriving in this historic capital, enjoy a short drive through the city before boarding the Avalon Imagery II, your elegant home for the next 14 nights. (L,D)

ARNHEM

Discover the fascinating history surrounding one of World War II’s most significant battles as we tour Arnhem and the nearby village of Groesbeek, home of the famed Canadian War Cemetery. In the afternoon, a scenic carriage ride takes us through the Ooijpolder nature reserve. Known for its majestic wild horses and other local fauna, the reserve provides ample subject matter for reflection as we sail for Venlo after a delicious onboard dinner. (B,L,D)

MAASTRICHT

Today we explore Maastricht, one of the Netherlands’ most historically significant cities. Marvel at the medieval architecture, from the Gothic Sint Janskerk church to the Romanesque Basilica of St. Servatius, home to a collection of priceless religious artworks. NAMUR, BELGIUM

In Namur, a thriving modern university sits in the shadow of one of Europe’s mightiest fortresses in a dramatic symbol of Belgium itself. Experience this balance firsthand as we visit the great citadel’s underground tunnels before emerging to tour its bustling old town. Ancient yet new, grand yet welcoming, Namur truly is a city like no other. (B,L,D)

The cultural centre of the Wallonia region, Liège epitomizes the unmatched warmth of the Belgian people. Savour sights and sounds taken straight from the pages of a fairy tale as we visit Fort De Loncin and amble through the city’s romantic alleys. ANTWERP

Our morning begins with a tour of beautiful Antwerp, with its vibrant fashion and entertainment scene as well as the magnificent Cathedral of Our Lady. As we wander down antique lanes lined with cozy cafés and bustling bars, surprises wait around every corner. In the evening, savour a coffee or cocktail as we sail to Brussels. (B,L,D)

BRUSSELS

Today we visit Belgium’s capital, the ancient yet modern Brussels. While the quaint corridors could occupy days by themselves, the real heart of the city is the Grand Place, considered by many as the most beautiful market square in all of Europe. BRUGES

Traverse winding streets and historic whitewashed houses on our way to the iconic Belfry of Bruges. Follow both a guided walking tour and a canal boat cruise as we step into Belgium’s past in one of the world’s best-preserved medieval towns. We then visit the Adegem Canadian War Cemetery before returning to the ship. (B,L,D)

GHENT

Ghent, “The Diamond of Flanders,” is one of the country's most entrancing cities. St. Bavo’s Cathedral dominates the city skyline, yet it is the artistic treasures within it that will leave you in awe, including Hugo van der Goes’ renowned ‘Calvary Triptych’. Lunch will be on board before an evening of live entertainment as we cruise to Bossuit. (B,L,D)

FLANDERS FIELD

Our day begins in Ypres amid the poppies that made Canadian poet John McCrae a household name back home. Feel free to recite your favourite lines from “In Flanders Fields,” as you are surrounded by historic memorials. After dinner, participate in the Last Post Ceremony, a nightly tradition where the town gathers for the sounding of the Last Post bugle call, a fitting ending to an unforgettable day. (B,L,D)

MIDDELBURG & VEERE, THE NETHERLANDS

Discover a regal city with rich colonial roots on our guided tour of Middelburg, the capital of Zeeland. From there, depart on a scenic cruise to the seaside town of Veere. Today a bustling harbour, this former fishing village is where we depart for the Delta Works, the largest flood-protection system on the planet. (B,L,D)

KINDERDIJK & ROTTERDAM

The windmill is a national symbol in Holland, and today we learn why as we tour Kinderdijk, the site of 19 windmills built in 1740. From there, enjoy a guided tour of Rotterdam. Nearly levelled during World War II, Rotterdam now stands as a beacon of resilience, with its rebuilt architecture and diverse cultures marking it as a unique, modern metropolis. (B,L,D)

KEUKENHOF GARDENS & HAARLEM

Today, all 32 hectares of Europe’s most beautiful tulip garden are ours to enjoy. After marvelling at the seven million bulbs planted there annually, we visit Haarlem, a major flower-growing district outside Amsterdam. Once you visit the flower gardens that made Holland famous, no garden will ever look the same. (B,L,D)

AMSTERDAM

Stroll through the picturesque city of Hoorn, from the 17th-century town centre to the horn-shaped harbour. We then stop by another quaint town, Volendam, and admire its colourful wooden houses. In the afternoon, explore Amsterdam at your leisure before a lovely farewell dinner. (B,L,D)

Kinderdijk

In Kinderdijk 19 windmills were built in 1740 as flood prevention and water management. Hear about the windmill’s vital role in the Netherlands’ history and why it became a national symbol of Holland.

Amsterdam

Known for its artistic heritage, elaborate canal system, energetic nightlife and narrow houses with gabled facades, Amsterdam is the Netherlands’ mandated capital. In addition to boasting a longer canal system than Venice, cycling is key to the city’s character, with more than 760 kilometres of cycle paths and bike lanes.

The Canadian War Cemetery

The Grosbeek Canadian War Cemetery contains the largest number of buried Canadian soldiers in the Netherlands. Within the cemetery stands the Grosbeek Memorial, which honors the Commonwealth land forces that died during one of the latter campaigns of the Second World War.

Keukenhof Gardens

Visit the most beautiful tulip garden in Europe – Keukenhof. With over seven million flower bulbs planted and blooming annually over 32 hectares, this splendid floral display is one of the world’s largest flower gardens and delights all who visit.

Avalon Imagery II

Christened in 2016, the Avalon Imagery II joins Avalon Waterways’ growing fleet of Suite Ships. With over 50 suites on board, it sails along the Dutch and Belgian Waterways. Like its prominent predecessors, this boat continues orientation to high-quality river cruises in Europe.

Brussels

Tour Brussels, an ancient yet modern city and home of the European Commission. They will take us on a walking tour through the quaint avenues of Belgium’s capital to the ‘Grand Place,’ possibly Europe’s most beautiful market square.
