Petra is an historical and archaeological marvel. Hidden away in the red-sandstone Mountains of southern Jordan, it is a desolate, lost city that was once a lively hub and a welcome oasis for traders and their caravans. Witness the massive Obelisk Tomb and take a deep breath as you begin your trek on foot through the Siq, the narrow gorge that leads to Petra’s most impressive monument, the Treasury.
Behold, your experience has just begun as we continue to the Street of Facades, the Theater, the Royal Tombs, the Colonnaded Street, the Byzantine Church, the Temple, the Monumental Arch and Qasr El-Bint Faroun. Few people spend more than a couple hours in this remote, intriguing environment. With the right guides, a day in Rum is a spectacular treat and today is your day. Our Bedouin hosts greet us in their traditional hospitable style and carry us away in their 4 x 4’s for a day of exploration and a BBQ lunch, Bedouin style. The Bedouin people have lived in Rum for thousands of years and led nomadic lives as hunters, pastoralists, farmers and traders.
They gained notoriety more recently when they fought alongside Lawrence of Arabia during the Arab Revolt in 1917. Lawrence himself references Wadi Rum in his book ‘The Seven Pillars of Wisdom,’ and his exploits have become part of local folklore. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Overnight Wadi Rum, Sun City Camp

Day 12

A leisurely day takes us across the Arava border into Israel to the resort area of Ein Bokek on the shores of the Dead Sea. This is the lowest surface of the earth, at 1,410 feet below sea level. Interestingly, different languages have very similar names for this salty, isolated, odd coloured body of water; Arabic ‘Al-Baḥr Al-Mayyit’ (‘Sea of Death’) and Hebrew ‘Yam HaMelaẖ’ (‘Salt Sea’), and in English also called ‘Salt Sea.’ However you say it, it is one of the most interesting places known to man. Truly, the salt is so thick, its waters more resemble a sponge as you can sit up in the water and read a book. Enjoy free time at the Spa, on the beach or soaking in the healing waters. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Overnight Ein Bokek, David Dead Sea

Day 13

Ascending by cable car, your eyes and soul begin to comprehend how impressive the mountain top settlement of Masada is. This ancient fortification is situated on top of an isolated rock plateau, on the eastern edge of the Judean Desert, overlooking the Dead Sea. Herod the Great built the fortress of Masada and furnished this fortress as a refuge for himself. It included a casement wall around the plateau, storehouses, large cisterns ingeniously filled with rainwater, barracks, palaces and an armory. After the Romans breached the fortress walls and re-conquered the village, it was largely forgotten for over 1,500 years. The arid desert region kept it largely intact and today it remains one of the most important historical places in Jewish history. We depart for the Valley of the Zealots in the Judean Desert, to a green oasis: the village of Nokdim. Enjoy lunch in this serene setting before continuing to Jerusalem for the night. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Overnight Jerusalem, Dan Hotel

Day 14

Our day begins with the panoramic view of the Old City from the Mount of Olives, with its ancient Jewish cemetery and historic churches. Behold the Agony church, Gethsemane Garden and a view of Kedron Valley with the Absalom and Zachary tombs. We continue through the Via Dolorosa until we reach the Holy Sepulcher for a visit. Discover Mount Zion, the Cenacle, David’s tomb and the Dormition Abbey. Our morning finishes at the Wailing Wall before returning to the hotel for an afternoon of leisure. (Breakfast, Dinner)
Overnight Jerusalem, Dan Hotel

Day 15

Today we venture into New Jerusalem for a visit of Yad Vashem, the Holocaust Memorial. Walk through this astounding place with its moving focus on the individuals of the Holocaust, the Children’s Memorial and Hall of Remembrance. At the Israel Museum discover the mysteries of the Dead Sea Scrolls at the Shrine of the Book and see the 1:50 scale Model of ancient Jerusalem from the time of the Temple. After our farewell lunch, visit Yad Hashmona for a meeting with a local Jewish community which believes in Jesus as the Messiah. Remainder of day is at your leisure to prepare for our journey home tomorrow. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Overnight Jerusalem, Dan Hotel

Journey Highlights

Wherever you go in the ancient city of Jerusalem, you are met with sights of awe-inspiring grandeur. Behold the Old City from the Mount of Olives, wander through Gethsemane Garden, walk along the Via Dolorosa, visit the Holy Sepulcher, and stand beneath the Wailing Wall. To witness places of such deep historical and religious importance is to gain a new understanding of their significance, both within the city of Jerusalem and around the world.

Lost City of Petra

Petra, the capital of the Nabataean Arabs, is a city carved right out of the rock. Explore one of the most famous archaeological sites in the world, hidden away in the red-sandstone mountains of southern Jordan. To enter the city, make your way down the Siq, at the end of which you’re greeted by Petra’s most impressive building, the Treasury. While Petra is now desolate, it is easy to imagine the bustling society that once inhabited the astounding buildings, which include the Theater, the Royal Tombs, the Byzantine Church, the Monumental Arch, and many others.

Wadi Rum

There is no better way to experience a new place than to be welcomed by the people who have lived there for thousands of years. That’s how you’ll discover Wadi Rum, a valley cut into the red sandstone and granite of Jordan and the home of the Bedouin people. Spend a day exploring Wadi Rum and sharing a BBQ lunch with your Bedouin hosts, learning about this awe-inspiring and unique area from the ones who know it the best.

The Dead Sea

At 1,410 feet below sea level, the Dead Sea is the lowest surface on earth. However, that is not the Dead Sea’s only claim to fame. Because of its salty composition, it is easy to float tranquilly on the surface and let the calming sound of the water relax each muscle in your body. When you’re not soaking in the healing waters, enjoy some down time on the beach or let the nearby spa rejuvenate and prepare you for even more relaxation and adventure.
