Amble through the historic city of Bruges, where the canals lap gently against medieval buildings. Contemplate the work of Dutch painters Rembrandt and Van Gogh in the city of Amsterdam. Stretch your legs after cruising leisurely down the IJssel river by exploring Zutphen and Doesburg, cities liberated by Canadian forces in 1945—an incredible connection that remains today. Journey Highlights

Aboard the Da Vinci

Designed with the old-world charm of a sleek yacht, with sumptuous textile, leather furniture and dark wood, the Da Vinci is one of the most elegant and impressive riverboats of Western Europe. The interior was specifically designed to offer guests maximum space: the large reception area with a fireplace, the impressive lounge, and the spacious restaurant – all this amounts to an atmosphere of exuberant yet comfortable luxury. Privately chartered by Journeys by Van Dyke to provide an exceptional experience, the Da Vinci is your home away from home as you explore new cultures and stunning landscapes along the rivers of Europe.

The Belgian capital of Brussels is a city steeped in history and significant on the world stage today as the home of the European Commission. Join local guides Heleen and Jeannine on an unforgettable tour of this thousand-year-old city. Saunter down the quaint avenues to the Grand Place, one of Europe’s most beautiful market squares, which is surrounded by ornate guildhalls, the city’s Town Hall, and the Museum of the City of Brussels. After the walking tour, enjoy a leisurely lunch and explore the city according to your own interests.

Bruges, “Venice of the North”

Often referred to as the “Venice of the North,” the medieval city of Bruges offers endless opportunities for exploring, both on foot and by boat. First, marvel at the Belfry of Bruges, the medieval bell tower that dominates the market square. Continue your walking tour through the city’s cobbled streets and quaint shops lined neatly in a row. Then, board a canal boat to experience the city from a new perspective, floating down serene canals, under stone bridges, and past medieval houses that seem to have sprung directly from a storybook.

Europe’s Loveliest Town Hall, Middelburg

The late-gothic town hall of Middelburg, Zeeland is an imposing and ornate building towering over the town’s market square. Started in 1452 but not completed until 1520, it has come to be known as Europe’s loveliest town hall; although the interior was burned during the Second World War, it has since been restored in its traditional gothic style. On your visit to Middelburg, Heleen and other local guides will immerse you in the town’s unique culture and give you the opportunity to marvel at its incredible town hall to your heart’s content.

Canals are the very soul of Amsterdam; in addition to giving the city its unique atmosphere, they play an integral role in the lives of locals, especially in the areas of leisure, transportation, and even accommodation. Participate in this centuries-old tradition by touring Amsterdam by canal boat, drifting under quaint stone bridges and past tall and narrow canal houses. Then, do some exploring on dry land, visiting such cultural landmarks as the Van Gogh Museum or the Anne Frank House, to become even better acquainted with this charming city.
