In the afternoon, relax aboard a cruise of Lake Windermere, soaking in the unparalleled natural vistas in the heart of the English countryside. As our adventure turns northwards, enter the era of Roman occupation as we pass over Hadrian’s Wall, one of the last vestiges of England’s mythical past. Experience Scottish history first-hand at Ayrshire where we tour the cashmere factory of Begg & Co., a leader among the world’s most prestigious fashion houses since 1866. The soul of Scotland manifests itself at the inimitable Highland Games. Marvel at the display of strength and skill in events such as caber toss and stone put. After meeting the competitors, we enjoy lunch at a local eatery overlooking Loch Lomond before visiting the legendary Glengoyne Distillery. On a private tour, observe the process of making (and tasting) some of the world’s finest whisky before returning to Glasgow for a truly special dinner at the iconic Ubiquitous Chip country food restaurant. We begin the day exploring Stirling Castle, a magnificent 16th-century castle perched atop the scenic crag of Castle Hill. From there it’s only a short drive to Edinburgh, the captivating capital of Scotland. After checking in to our hotel we celebrate the highlight of our journey – The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. Enjoy a traditional Scottish dinner at the Amber Restaurant before being escorted to the historic Edinburgh Castle. Once there, we are seated in a prime location within the Castle Esplanade, ready for an experience like no other.
EDINBURGH CASTLE
Today, Edinburgh is ours to explore as we are treated to a panoramic tour of the city, including visits with local artisans. After lunch at a popular local restaurant, discover the city’s most iconic landmark, Edinburgh Castle, home to the Honours of Scotland, the Mons Meg, and the National War Museum. Built on land continuously occupied for nearly 2,200 years, the castle has borne witness to Kings and Queens, Barons and Generals and today, you and your fellow guests. (B,L,D)
EDINBURGH’S SURROUNDING AREA
Edinburgh itself provides a rich living tapestry of history, but just beyond the city boundaries lies a further cornucopia of historical gems. In our quest to discover all that Scotland has to offer, follow roads less travelled to the stunning Rosslyn Chapel, a monument to the 15th century carved in stone and glass. In the afternoon, visit Dalmeny House, an enchanting 1817 home on the shores of the Firth of Forth.
