Yukon and Alaska by Land and Sea

Our journey is one of very few that visit as much of Yukon as we do. So we should highlight more of it. Our First Nations tour is very unique as is the Tombstone Territorial Park. Those who have spent time in Canada’s north will attest it is anything but desolate. A vibrant culture and endless landscapes are a beating heart of adventure. During your 17-day journey through Canada’s Yukon and Alaska, you will discover a beloved capital city, historic highways through the wilderness, and diverse people. Spend time with a Yukon Quest Sled Dog Racing Legend and share in the lively banter of his Sled Dog Team. Meet a team of dogs who love the cold almost as much as they love pulling a sled through the rugged wilderness. Try your hand at panning for gold before touring a working mine. Travel over an ancient trail to the Tombstone Mountains. Learn the ancient ways of the First Nations with an Elder on a Yukon River cruise. Catch a glimpse of a grizzly bear feeding on salmon in Eagle Creek. Fly over the Juneau Ice fields with an Alaskan Bush Pilot to a family owned wilderness lodge for lunch. Behold the beauty of Vancouver’s Stanley Park. Bask in the warmth of the many friends you’ll meet along the way.

This morning, we visit a working gold mine and stop at Dredge#4 for pictures. In the afternoon, our friend Tommy takes us on a boat tour along the mighty Yukon River and shares tales of growing up along this vital waterway. Journey Highlights

Midnight Dome

Located just outside of Dawson City, the Midnight Dome is much more than a mere lookout place. This grand hill allows you to experience the full beauty of the Yukon River, Klondike Valleys, and in the distance, Ogilvie Mountain Range. You can also see Dawson City from the summit. Take some time to simply drink in the majestic views and watch as the Yukon river slips slowly away beneath you. And remember, no voyage through Alaska is complete without a photo from the top of the Midnight Dome!

Tombstone Valley

Tombstone Territorial Park boasts 2,200 square kilometers of protected wilderness. Visit Tombstone Territorial Park Interpretive Centre to learn more about the park’s rich natural wonders and First Nations culture. You can even enjoy a cup of Mountain Wild tea by the fire or visit the centre’s library. Then, embark on a journey along Dempster Highway, from which you can enjoy the craggy peaks, sun trap valleys, and abundant wildlife the park has to offer.

WhitePass & Yukon Route Railway

Marvel at the breathtaking Alaskan wilderness in a way that is truly unique, boarding the Alaska Railroad GoldStar Dome Car for the journey of a lifetime. You’ll be travelling directly behind the engine, and on top of the car rather than in the middle, ensuring you don’t miss any of the incredible views surrounding you. Native Alaskans give commentary throughout the journey as only natives can to help you more fully understand and enjoy the many sights and panoramas you’ll see along the way.

The jewel of Canada’s west coast, Vancouver is a vibrant and diverse city. Enjoy the dramatic Vancouver skyline as you pass under the Lions Gate Bridge and enter the First Narrows into the city. Vancouver offers plenty to occupy your mind and capture your heart, from the Victorian architecture and trendy vibes of the neighborhood of Gas Town, to the green oasis of Stanley Park, to the impeccably landscaped Queen Elizabeth Park. Whether you’re meeting new friends or stopping to smell the roses, the city of Vancouver will draw you in with its distinctive coastal charm.
