Journey Itinerary

Day 1

Enjoy a private car ride to the airport. Guests departing from the Toronto airport are assisted with their check-in. Meet your Journey Manager and fellow travellers and board your flight to Whitehorse, Yukon. The journey of a lifetime begins. Once at our hotel, enjoy free time to relax and also to try on your personal winter clothing. This usually turns into an entertaining fashion show as guests parade the hallways to compare their latest bulky fashions! This evening, enjoy a unique opportunity to meet your chosen Musher as we rendezvous at the Mushers Banquet. (D)
Gold Rush Inn, Whitehorse (4 nights)

Day 2

Today, we enjoy an entertaining city tour with visits to local museums and attractions. After lunch, enjoy an afternoon at your leisure as your guides take you wherever you wish to go; ice skating, swimming, hiking or even downhill skiing. This evening we join Yukon Quest lovers at the Start Banquet, a lively evening with dinner, a silent auction and words of wisdom from the Mushers. Each Musher draws their bib number, which is their starting position for the race. We have sponsored our own bib and are excited to be a part of this special evening. (B,L,D)

Day 3

This morning, enjoy time with our good friends during an invigorating Sled Dog ride across Lake Laberge. This northern family has run the Quest many times and enjoy sharing their traditional way of life with us. Each of us will have the opportunity to drive our own team of trusty dogs and relax in the sled and watch the world glide by. Enjoy a true Yukon lunch out on the trail before returning to Whitehorse for dinner. (B,L,D)

Day 4

The excitement of the dogs will surprise you as we witness the start of the world’s toughest sled dog race. Meet up with your Musher and sled dogs before the race and cheer them on as they begin their 1,000 mile trek through the wilderness en-route to Fairbanks, Alaska. The start line of the Quest is a busy, activity filled area with many displays and locals gathering for the event. We will warm up over lunch and share our impressions with fellow travellers of this truly unique experience. After an eventful day, enjoy dinner at our hotel. (B,L,D)

Day 5

Onto the Alcan Highway and south towards Skagway, Alaska, we venture into some of the most beautiful scenery in North America. We cross into BC and through no man’s land over the White Pass into Skagway, to enjoy lunch in this beautiful coastal town. Board the Alaska Marine Highway Ferry to Haines, Alaska. It is a real working town, not commercialized as many others have become. Enjoy a quick introduction (it’s a small town!) along with a visit to the local museum. Dinner tonight is at a local restaurant with the locals. (B,L,D)
Captain’s Choice Motel, Haines, Alaska (1 night)

Day 6

This morning we take a packed lunch as we venture to more remote parts of the region to witness breathtaking landscapes. As we drive north along the Haines Road, we notice the trees getting smaller and the snow getting deeper as we climb higher and higher into the mountains and pass into British Columbia and the Yukon. We stop at beautiful Kathleen Lake before arriving in the very picturesque town of Haines Junction. A scenic drive to the edge of Kluane National Park to take in this area’s beauty is a must. We travel the Alaska Highway back to Whitehorse for dinner. (B,L,D)
Gold Rush Inn, Whitehorse (1 night)
Day 7

Travelling north today, we stop to chat with our good friend Steve in Braeburn. He has a special treat in store! Five Fingers Rapids holds a lot of history and sits frozen in the Yukon River. In the First Nations community of Pelly Crossing, a Yukon Quest checkpoint, enjoy lunch and a chat with the locals. Witness the spectacular scenery during our all day adventure to Dawson City. Begin your exploration of this quaint town and enjoy dinner at our hotel. (B,L,D)
Eldorado Hotel, Dawson City (3 nights)

Day 8

Dawson City is most famous for its great gold rush of 1898 and it has not changed much since then. We will get to discover the very relaxed, laid back atmosphere during a brief tour today. It is quite a different experience to be here in winter in comparison to the busy summer tourist season. We will enjoy lunch in town and if we are lucky, we will see the spectacular Sun Dogs in the crisp northern sky. These are glowing spots around the sun created by sunlight refracting off plate-shaped ice crystals. This evening enjoy dinner at our hotel and some of you brave souls may even want to try the Sourtoe Cocktail ! (B,L,D)

Day 9

Today will be a day of Dogs and Drivers. The mandatory 36 hour layover in Dawson City gives us the chance to watch the teams arrive in town and visit with the locals and media from all over the world. Following some free time for lunch on your own, drive or walk across the frozen Yukon River to visit the teams at the campground. Discover the different Mushers’ camp sites and see how well the sled dogs are cared for. After dinner at the hotel, sit in the local pubs and chat with the Mushers, their handlers and the fans to absorb the tales, mystery and intrigue of the experience along the Yukon Quest trail. (B,D)

Day 10

We return to Whitehorse today, we enjoy a boxed lunch on the way. On arrival, enjoy free time to relax or explore at your leisure before dinner at our hotel. (B,L,D)

Journey Highlights

Dog Sledding on Lake Laberge

An exhilarating day with a lovely northern family takes you on an adventure you will never forget. Brilliant sunshine, the energy of dozens of barking dogs eager to go, thorough instructions and then the silence of the runners as your sled dog team carries you across the frozen lake to the far shore for hot coffee, laughs, good conversation and lunch on an open fire.

Dawson City

Spending time in Dawson City is always a joy, making it one of the favourite destinations of many of our guests. You’ll experience true northern hospitality, which is always in especially fine form during the Yukon Quest. Explore the quaint and colourful streets of this city, and meet the mushers and dogs in their remote camps along the Yukon River. It truly is the lively spirit of the local people that will keep you warm as you explore this amazing northern town.

Haines is one of our favourite Alaskan towns, which makes us extra eager to share it with you. It is a real working town—not commercialized as many others have become—nestled between Chilkoot Inlet, Chilkat Inlet, and Mount Ripinski. Enjoy a quick introduction (it’s a small town!) along with a visit to the local museum showcasing more than 4,000 artifacts related to the art and culture of Haines. The stunning views and kind locals are sure to make Haines a favourite for you, too.

With our friendly guides and our two private vehicles at the ready, the Yukon capital of Whitehorse is your playground! Enjoy an entertaining city tour with visits to local museums and attractions. Spend an afternoon indulging in local pastimes, such as skating, hiking, or skiing. It is also in this charming northern capital that the Start Banquet of the Yukon Quest takes place. Enjoy a dinner, a silent auction, and speeches before the mushers draw a bib number to determine their starting position for the race. Your visit to Whitehorse will be one of entertainment, leisure, and, undoubtedly, excitement!
